Stroke & Neurological RehabilitationRI Rehab provides a wide range of treatments for stroke and other neurological impairments including Parkinson’s Disease, Muscular Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), chronic brain injury, spinal chord injury. Rehabilitation programs for stroke and neurological problems focus on exercises and training programs to restore a client’s level of function. RI Rehab therapists develop individualized exercise regimens in physical therapy and occupational therapy that emphasize proprioception training, gait training, stair retraining, balance and coordination training and functional and safety training. Transfer training — sit to stand, stand to sit, sit to lying down, rolling, bed mobility — is another component of a well designed neurological rehabilitation program. Therapists set up controlled obstacle courses so clients can practice maneuvering through a variety of direction changes. Patients are trained to progress through a series of assistive devices from a walker to a hemi-cane to a cane with the goal of restoration of independent mobility. |
