Proprioception & Balance Training

Proprioception & Balance TrainingProprioception and balance training exercises for the elderly are designed to avoid falls and to help maintain an active lifestyle and for younger clients to help improve athletic and dance performance. Exercises for proprioception and balance training often start with having the person working on a wide base of support and then progressing toward a narrower base of support, that offers more of a challenge balance-wise. We work on unilateral stance and reaching position, reaching movements, and progress to reaching on unstable surfaces, obstacle courses, and incorporating some of the Pilates principles into those treatments for balance. Unstable surfaces, physioballs and foamrollers, BAPS boards, Ab supports, and bosu balls are some of the equipment that we use to help clients develop their balance and proprioceptive skills.
