Acupressure

Acupressure

Acupressure was developed in China around 5,000 years ago. It is a form of massage in which the therapist uses fingers, knuckles, and palms, with the occasional use of elbows and feet to press specific points on the body to relieve pain, reduce stress, and promote good health. In China, acupressure is also used on those suffering from common colds, headaches, morning sickness, motion sickness, sore muscles, and hangovers.

The goal of acupressure is to release energy that is blocked by stimulating points on the body identified as acupoints. By pressing firmly and steadily on these points, endorphins are released to parts of the body that are discomforted, allowing the body to heal itself.

There are many varieties of acupressure, including shiatsu. Often, a therapist will combine methods to achieve the best results.
